Eat Your Design Competition

What if your footprint couldn’t be big enough? Submit design ideas for a biodegradable future. Submissions by March 23.
Design an installation based on the concept of systemic biomimicry for the cafe seating area in the Pratt Studios first floor elevator lobby using materials that are fully reusable, recyclable or biodegradable.

DIY or DIE: Do It Yourself Collection

Image display of do it yourself projects made of found or recycled materials
The Material Library will collect images of do it yourself (DIY) projects using found or recycled materials. The DIY project can be a school project, sculpture, clothing, jewelry, art, product design, anything DIY. The images will be  part of new Material Library’s collection to encourage reusing material instead of throwing them away.

Stop by all week to see green-themed movies on view in the lower-level, the book display on the first floor featuring books on sustainability, and learn about the library’s resources to help with all your environmental research! Retro “Green” Film Screening

16mm film screening and discussion on nature and preservation of the collection over tea + treats.
Come watch five environmentally-themed 16mm short films from the Pratt Institute Library’s collection.  These vintage “educational” films dating from the 60s, 70s, and 80s are a mix of animation and live action and cover such subjects as waste collection, alternative energies, and the environmental impact of cars and traffic. Among the films is a rare 1977 film Collection and Disposal: A Job for the Birds, a look at garbage collection and collectors in New York City that features fascinating footage of the city in the 1970s.  Learn about 16mm films, the evolution of green thinking, and welcome special guest speaker Carl Zimring!

NYC DOT Free Helmet Giveaway

Representatives of the NYC Department of Transportation will be giving away free helmets to dedicated and aspiring bicyclists alike. Make your shift to sustainable transportation safe with one of DOT’s unmistakeable helmets. A perfect accessory for CitiBike users! DOT staff provide a personalized fit, so you must be present in order to receive your helmet. In addition to helmets, the DOT will provide bike maps and other transportation-oriented swag, so stop by even if you do not need a helmet!

Hatha Yoga + Yoga of Meditation Practice

Bring a yoga mat for 1hr. Hatha Yoga + 20min. Meditation
The Pratt Center for Continuing and Professional Studies Wellness Program (Pratt-CCPS Wellness Program) is pleased to be part of Green Week. Wellness plays an important role in sustainability. We will be holding a free, open yoga and meditation event of one hour and 20 minutes – i.e., one hour of open Hatha Yoga class, followed by a twenty-minute meditation. This event is open to students on any level of yoga and meditation practice. Students must supply their own yoga mat.
